Goodbye, Hello

There’s no right time to say goodbye, but there is a right way to say it. And after years of writing this blog, I do believe the time has come. Pennmoney was created in June 2017, six months after I had my first child, in some fit of postpartum frenzy for purpose. I was finally acting on a hunch that had solidified into a belief over the previous couple of years – that women need to be taught personal finance differently. Exclusively. In a way that mattered, and made sense to them.

The last 9 years of writing on and for Pennmoney have been a very rewarding experience. I’ve written nearly a hundred personal finance columns for publications the likes of The News Minute and The Morning Context, wrote a book, came on TV a couple of times as a personal finance expert, but most importantly, met dozens (a very large number in my opinion) of readers who’ve come up to me and told me that they love this blog.

So why say good bye? For starters, the way we consume information has changed completely. We don’t browse the internet the way we used to pre-2020. We scroll. Websites and blogs have become slop fodder primed to create more slop fodder. This isn’t an insinuation by any means – in fact it’s how I behave now. The era of going to a website to see what’s new, to read, to explore, is well and truly over. We’re now bound by platforms – Substack/newsletters for reading, reddit for niche hobbies, Linkedin for work, and Instagram and X for everything else.

A special thank you from our in-house mascot, Fergie

With the advent of AI, learning about topics or news has never been easier – and has more or less eradicated the need for an ‘informative’ blog like Pennmoney. In all honesty, this is something I welcome wholeheartedly, because it allows me (and us) to go beyond what AI cannot tell us, and tap into deeper emotions that surround money and money decisions. The what of investing is now clearer than ever. The why is where we must now do the work.

All of this is to say that I’m not going to stop talking about money, especially not in the context of daily life. You can buy my book, if you haven’t already, find me on Substack (where I do talk about the whys), Instagram (a necessary evil) and X.

This blog – and it’s archives – will be locked in the following months. If there’s something here that interests you, feel free to screenshot/copy.

Thank you for reading.
